1990s Harshad Mehta scam

Image
The top photo is of Harshad Mehta in 1991 with his Lexus and the photo under it is that of the same person but being escorted by police in 1992 for fraud. Mr Mehta, nicknamed Big Bull, was a flamboyant stock broker of Mumbai who rose to instant fame in 1991 due to his aggressive strategies of stock market. He bought a Lexus, a sprawling house with swimming pool and a golf course!! But not many knew about his fraudulent methods. He exploited every possible loophole in banking systems to make quick money illegally. Two such loopholes were Ready Forward (RF) and Bank Receipts (BR). Let me try to explain in simple words how he exploited the system. At any point of time, there would be banks wanting to sell their securities (like bonds/shares) for cash and there would be banks wanting to buy securities by offering cash. He used to act as a middleman between such banks. Suppose SBI wanted to sell securities and ICICI wanted to buy securities. He would go to SBI and assure t

Selling Skills

Image
Selling is an integral part of the most of the business. Many companies invest uncountable money to teach their employee “How to sell effectively?” In the early days it was not necessary because no competition or very less competition was there but now the era, the business models, the products, the target groups (segments) etc. has been changed. The more and more you will sell the more and more revenue you will add in your balance sheet. Sales are one of the most financially rewarding jobs now. Sales can hardly be boring, because it deals with different peoples. It is one of the exciting and challenging careers. Now-a-days there are N numbers of training centers who teach selling skills, but as per my experience, no body can teach a person how to sell. What other can do is just share their own experience which helps others to create their own mentality for the selling. Every body has their own way of selling. There are 2 pillars which determine the quality of selling: Communication

Magic With Math

“Mathematics may be defined as the subject in which we never know what we are talking about, nor whether what we are saying is true.” - Bertrand Russell Mathematics is really a very interesting subject. Many fears from it, but whenever you get the logic behind it, you simply love it. Mathematics is one of my favorite subjects. I have found some very interesting patterns, which are very interesting and not less than any magic. I would like to share it with all of you – 1 * 8 + 1 = 9 12 * 8 + 2 = 98 123 * 8 + 3 = 987 1234 * 8 + 4 = 9876 12345 * 8 + 5 = 98765 123456 * 8 + 6 = 987654 1234567 * 8 + 7 = 9876543 12345678 * 8 + 8 = 98765432 123456789 * 8 + 9 = 987654321 1 * 9 + 2 = 11 12 * 9 + 3 = 111 123 * 9 + 4 = 1111 1234 * 9 + 5 = 11111 12345 * 9 + 6 = 111111 123456 * 9 + 7 = 1111111 1234567 * 9 + 8 = 11111111 12345678 * 9 + 9 = 111111111 123456789 * 9 + 10 = 1111111111 9 * 9 + 7 = 88 98 * 9 + 6 = 888 987 * 9 + 5 = 8888 9876 * 9 + 4 = 88888 98765 * 9 + 3 = 888888 987654 * 9 + 2 = 8888888 9

Many of my blog readers have asked me about the investments, how should they allocate or invest their money? I am still a student and learning all these but I am trying my level best to answer this question. As I always say that investments and savings are very essential and everyone should practice it. Here the main question is “How much to invest/save and where to invest/save?” In my opinion there are 3 types of person in this world- Spend more than they earn Spend all their income and save if there is any balance . Save first then spend the rest                   Type 1 and type 2 belong to unsystematic type of people and most of the time only live by today freely. These types of people should set up a systematic saving program no matter how small the amount might be. Start from a very little saving like Rs. 1 a day in the piggy bank. Whenever you start to feel the habit of saving and getting use to it, increase the amount to Rs. 2 a day or even Rs. 100 a month or

Tips to teach kids about savings and investements

Image
Being a finance management student I always emphasis on saving and investment for th e future. Every body should learn how to save and invest money in a profitable way. I am learning it now but I think I would have learned it in my childhood. Now I am a strong believer that every child should know about saving and every parent should teach saving techniques to their child. If children will know the benefits of saving then they will start it in their early ages, which will be a great help in the future time. In my opinion the preteen years are a golden time to teach kids about saving for the future. They already know the value of money, having learned basic money concepts in school.                Following are some tips on how to teach kids about savings and investments – Explain to them that there are three things they can do with money: a. Spend b. Let it be in their wallets c. Save and let it grow.                  Now tell them that - It's good to spend for one

Please educate the senior citizens

Image
Recently a newspaper reported that a senior citizen sold his flat and deposited Rs27 lakh in a bank account held jointly by him and his son. Within a week, the son had withdrawn the entire amount without the father’s knowledge. When the father came to know about the withdrawal he was completely broken. This is not a single case. Now-a-days it has become a trend. Many a time we can get these types of news in the newspaper or from some other media. Some time it happenss with old father, sometime with old mother and sometime with any other old member of family. Why it happens? It is a big question. But just try to get the answer. There can be many reasons but I think lack of education and experience is the biggest reason behind it. A great percentage of our senior citizen population is illiterate. They can’t read the bank forms and other important documents. So it is very easy to get cheated by someone who is very close and know the processes. I think in the present time society need to
