Importance of fulfilling the promise

I was thinking since a long time, that what can be very important thing or quality which can make a business successful? What can be that thing that can make a business successful or failure? Is it quality of product, services provided by company, low price, financial position of company etc. or it is any other thing? After a lot of brain storming I came to know that in any business or in personal life fulfilling the commitment is very essential. Here are some of the examples –

  1. Toyota:- We all know that Toyota is a big name. Toyota is known for his quality. Quality is Toyota’s promise. Now what happened with Toyota? There is some acceleration and break problem in Toyota’s model. Toyota is also not considering the complains of his customers. So here Toyota is unable to fulfill his promise.

  2. Barack Obama :- Mr. Barack Obama has completed more than one year as a president of America but Mr. Obama is unable to fulfill the promises which he had made during the election campaign. He promised that he will end the war in Iraq, Recover the financial system, Ratify the Indo-US Nuclear deal etc. but it seems that he is unable to fulfill any of these. So now Mr. Obama is losing the faith and trust of the people. The rate of people who were supporting the Mr. Obama is constantly going down.
  3. My own: - I was working with a company, Farmers Biotech Ltd. as a Group leader. Company deals in high quality plant and fertilizer. Company was making the good quality fertilizer but once company made a poor quality fertilizer and due to it company had to face a huge loss.

There are many other examples like – Johnson & Johnson, Perrier, Nestle etc. which was going to fail due to nit fulfilling the promise but they fixed the problem.

So now at the end I would like to say that – Never promise too much or impossible. If you are promising something, you must fulfill that promise otherwise people will not trust on you.

Yes Surendra you are absolutely right. In any business edge of speaking yes/no is very necessary. If you promise something to deliver than in short term you can gain success but if you coult deliver the result than in the long run you will surely have to face the failure and this can be a disaster for your company because people loss their faith. So commit that what you can deliver. wonderful article. Keep on
